Vodice Gastronomy

The gastronomy of Šibenik-Knin County can be divided into two - the one that refers to the island-coastal part and the continental part. The first is characterized by mild spices, lots of olive oil and a fish menu, including seafood and shellfish. This area is characterized by mussels, which grow here three to five times faster than around the world. To succeed, they need brackish water created by mixing seawater from the bay with water from Lake Prokljan, several nearby springs and the Krka River.

Continental cuisine is dominated by meat with potatoes, dishes that you will find in restaurants and in every household. The tradition of preparation includes placing under an iron bell and sprinkling with grill, and in a few hours you can enjoy the flavors. You should not miss to try the traditional Drniš prosciutto, recognized and praised all over the world for its quality.

After the meal, we recommend trying traditional Šibenik desserts such as rožata (egg, milk and caramel cake), fritula (mini donuts with raisins and liqueur) and kroštula and mandulat - almond and honey dessert.

When trying indigenous red wines, choose the one that best suits your palate, such as Babić, Plavina and Lasina. White wines, as well as prosecco, which is part of the Dalmatian tradition, should also be tried. And you must not refuse homemade brandy, which will serve as a sign of welcome in every household.

Vodice boasts a wide selection of gastronomic offers, from restaurants to olive oil tastings. We definitely recommend visiting small family farms where you can taste and then buy original oils from guide mills in one place. Marašćina, a type of sweet wine, is special in this area.
